The real fun on Halloween comes from the really dark, complex and relentlessly stylish outfits- so let’s for once try and think outside of the box.

The relationship between the church and Halloween has always been a hot and controversial subject producing many films, music and art in pop culture. The church is the institution that opposes Halloween it’s a pagan celebration that celebrates death and all things satanic. The church as the institution that symbolises God and morality associates the Halloween rituals with the devil and blasphemy. It is this stark contrast which makes Church an exciting subject for Halloween inspiration and for fashion. 

The witch

The origins of witches date back from the dark ages. Originally medicinal women, the church condemned because it believed they had access to dark powers. During the inquisition the Church burned witches at a stake making this historical period a hot and interesting inspiration for Halloween. There are many ways you can dress as a witch and there are no rules for how to do it. Don’t go for the obvious dark costume and pointed hat. You can be rather inventive and very stylish with your outfit choice and bring accessories like a crystal gazing ball and a knife or vintage sheer black or white top or dress.

The first communion

The first communion is the day little girls dress in white and declare their union with the church. Their angelic outfits are the perfect inspiration for a Halloween costume, especially if sprinkled with fake blood, or adorned with Satanic symbols. The communion dress is way more original than the suicidal bride dress which is too overused already.

The borderline between church and witchcraft accessories is minimal- candles, holy water, ointment, and crosses are used in both church and satanic rituals alike. They make the perfect Halloween accessories too. They  are as kitch as Madonna in the 80s.
