The perfect vintage accessory

May 29, 2018

Since the dawn of times accessories have been used in ritualistic or religious ceremonies or as status symbols marking the leaders of the clan from the rest of the social structure. Although we have evolved from these “primitive” civilization forms, the purpose of the fashion accessory stays the same- as a marker of a personal identity. Each detail that we wear, regardless of the size marks some kind of difference or in some cases, similarity of personal style. Each detail that we wear, regardless of what it is marks some kind of difference or in some cases, similarity of personal style.

For this reason we tend to see people who have the same interests or follow similar values, political, social or style, wear similar things- the skinheads wearing their leather jackets and chained accessories, the punks wearing fishnets and chunky boots, the hippies wearing bangles and so on.

If you are looking for something easy and cool to wear then the best place to start is with vintage sunglasses. Aim for buying a pair each season and growing your collection until it becomes enviable. And the best part is that vintage sunglasses are often cheap- you can buy them for as low as €5 euros in a vintage market- or you can choose from one of our cool shapes for only €30

A great styling component is the belt, and there is a big difference between a regular belt and a vintage belt. There are many varieties of vintage belts, but our personal favorites this season are the 80s cowboy belts which can be styled with high wasted Levi’s or denim skirts.

Moving on to jewelry, this is a category you can play around with depending on the result you want to achieve. You can go for chunky chains for a punkish look, or clean silver jewelry for a minimal 90s look. Or you can go for something more feminine and refined like cameo shells, pearl necklaces and semi precious stone Victorian jewelry. Then there are the art-deco bangles and earrings of the late 60s and early 70s. Jewelry is where you can up-size and downsize and go completely wild.

No matter what kind of vintage accessories you like to use our advice is to always treat vintage accessories like a collectionist- traveling, discovering and looking for the most unique vintage pieces that will ultimately define your style.
